A woman has accused the Minister of Works, Engineer David Umahi of owing her money he was supposed to have paid her nine years ago. The Federal Government has amended the criminal charge filed against the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele. The charge which was formerly six counts, has now been increased to 20 counts. It borders on criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, procurement fraud and conspiracy to commit a felony. Power distribution companies, DisCos, have now been permitted by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, to purchase electricity directly from producers of the commodity. This is coming after more than 10 years that DisCos have relied on an intermediary described as bulk trader. The DisCos and the generation companies, GenCos, unbundled from the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, were privatized in 2013 and handed over to the core investors towards the end of same year. The Supreme Court on Friday, January 19, dismissed the appeal filed by Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, challenging the election of Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State. Adebutu alleged that Governor Abiodun did not comply with the electoral laws and he did not score the lawful majority votes. He was therefore asking the court to void his victory.
