The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has arraigned four persons suspected to be hard drug syndicates before a Federal High Court, in Lagos State for importation banned substances. The defendants arraigned before the court presided over by Justice Daniel Osiagor include Ogunmeru Oluwafunsho, 49, Adewale Adegbeti, 42, Adeleke Abdulrazaq, 43, and Dairo Quam, 22. The defendants are facing two count charges relating to conspiracy and illegal exportation of drugs levelled against them by NDLEA. The citizens of San Marino have voted in a referendum to legalize abortion, rejecting a 150-year-old law that had criminalized it and making the tiny republic the latest majority Catholic state to approve the procedure under certain circumstances. A fake nurse, one Olufunke Adegbenro has been arrested by officials of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwifery (NANNM), Lagos State for allegedly practising with a fake licence. It was gathered that the woman was employed in July 2021 as a nurse in the Isolo General Hospital by the Lagos State Health Service Commission. Adegbenro was caught during a verification exercise by officials of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwifery after allegedly collecting three months’ salaries from the state government. The Abia State Government has appealed for calm over the death of one Sunday Ugba, a deacon in the Assemblies of God Church. He died on Monday night, along with six other people, in his home in Umuahia. Ugba and the others, including four children that came on holiday in his house, died after taking suya and fruit juice. His wife was rushed unconscious to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where she is currently receiving medical treatment. A cholera outbreak in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State has resulted in the death of 35 people within two days. The chairman of the local government area, Prof. Ibrahim Bukar confirmed that the outbreak happened in Pulka, one of the few towns housing Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the area. Zambia has contracted a loan of $15 million from the African Development Bank (AfDB) for implementation of a water supply and sanitation project in 16 districts of the Western Province. The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is providing a $400 million financing package for Banco Itaú Unibanco, one of the largest banks in Brazil, to support projects that will help mitigate the effects of climate change. With IFC’s support, Itaú will finance renewable energy, water treatment, and energy efficiency projects, along with other initiatives that help to reduce greenhouse gases.
