A tunnel used by kidnappers for transporting victims into the bush in Abia State was discovered in the Lekwesi community, Umunneochi Local Government Area.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, revealed this during a recent operation led by Operation Crush personnel and government officials to two schools taken over by kidnappers in the Lekwesi community.
He emphasized that the dilapidated state of the schools had allowed criminals to use them, and the reconstruction of these schools would make it challenging for such activities.
Onwuemelie also pointed out that the vast and bushy areas in the region, including culverts, could be potential hiding places for victims.
