After the resignation of Professor Joseph Alkali as the Secretary to the Benue State Government (SSG), Governor Hyacinth Alia has appointed Barrister Aber Serumun as the new SSG. Notably, Aber is the first woman to hold this position in the state’s history.
The announcement was made in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, who explained that Prof. Alkali resigned on Monday, citing personal challenges that require his attention.
Governor Alia accepted Alkali’s resignation with appreciation for his year and three months of service under his administration. The governor extended his best wishes, expressing hope that God grants Alkali the strength to overcome the challenges he intends to address.
He said, “The new SSG, Barr. Aber is a seasoned solicitor and arbitrator with a strong sense of initiative and excellent analytical skills, which will bring positive growth and development to the state.”
Governor Alia praised the newly appointed SSG, Barrister Aber Serumun, as a team player with strong interpersonal skills, highlighting her commitment to excellence and her potential to contribute positively to the success and growth of his administration. He expressed confidence that her extensive experience, backed by her education from the University of Jos and Nasarawa State University, along with her proven record of integrity, would be instrumental in advancing the state’s progress.
Announcing that her appointment takes immediate effect, the governor urged the new SSG to remain focused and ensure that her efforts align with the administration’s goals as outlined in its working document. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the state’s interests in all her official duties, underscoring her role in helping drive the administration’s vision forward.
