Five suspected Boko Haram members including Mallam Isa, a commander, on Friday, 22 July surrendered to troops of the Nigerian Army in Borno.
According to The Cable, the counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama said, they surrendered on July 22 to the troops of 73 Battalion, Operation Hadin Kai.
“At about 200812A, the troops of Cashew plantation deployed at Valley Shuwa had received five surrendered Boko Haram terrorists,” he said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the insurgents were said to have come out from Gazuwa, an acclaimed new headquarters of the Boko Haram faction, located about 8 kilometers to the Bama Local Government area.
Makama said twenty-nine women and children later came out and surrendered to the troops after realizing that the five members, including the commander, surrendered without being killed.
Christopher Musa, theatre commander of the northeast joint taskforce of Operation Hadin Kai, said more than sixty-seven insurgents have surrendered to troops so far.
In April 2022, 10 suspected Boko Haram members surrendered to troops of the Nigerian Army in Borno.
