The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) announced on Monday, August 1 that a father of 30 children was killed when a tipper struck his motorcycle in Kogi state.
Corps Commander Stephen Dawulung, Kogi FRSC Sector Commander, made this known in Lokoja, according to Peoples Gazette.
“The man identified as Abdulsalam Ibrahim, a 60-year old commercial motorcyclist and his passenger were killed by the tipper truck at Ganaja Junction in Lokoja,” Dawulung said adding that the incident was tragic and very unfortunate.
He regretted that the accident cut short the life of a father of 30 children.
“The accident was a case of hit and run because by the time we responded to the distress call to the area immediately it happened, the driver and the tipper were no where to be found.
He said that officers deposited the corpse of man at the Morgue of Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, while that of the passenger was at Ankuri hospital morgue, Lokoja.
Dawulung advised drivers to constantly abide by safety precautions, such as speed restrictions.
He also recommended that riders should wear helmets to prevent head injuries.
Malam Musa Baba-Aliyu, the chairman of the Kogi Motorcycle Riders’ Association, also commented on the accident, stating that the deceased rider was a native of Katsina and a genuine union member.
Baba-Aliyu claimed that during the tragic occurrence, Ibrahim was attempting to avoid colliding with a commercial tricycle (Keke-NAPEP) that was approaching him from the opposite direction.
