The Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, a prominent first-class monarch in Osun State, has passed away at the age of 86.
The announcement of his death was made through a statement by the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Chief Yinka Fasuyi, on Thursday, September 12, in Osogbo, the state capital. Prior to the confirmation of his passing, concerns had been growing regarding Oba Aromolaran’s health, as reports indicated he had been unwell.
Chief Fasuyi confirmed the monarch’s death with a personal tribute titled, “An Era Comes To An Abrupt End,” reflecting on the significant loss to Ijesaland.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of the Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran. In a post on his X account on Thursday, September 12, Atiku shared his condolences and fond memories of the late monarch.
In his statement, Atiku reminisced about the monarch’s fatherly warmth, highlighting that Oba Aromolaran was more than just a father-in-law to him; he embodied the courage, boldness, and discipline that are characteristic of the Ijesha people.
Oba Aromolaran, who was also the Chairman of the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers, celebrated his 80th birthday in October 2017. He ascended to the throne on February 20, 1982, and reigned for 42 years until his passing.
