A 54-year-old man, Dauda Bello, has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun state police command for killing of one Mesesi Adisa, a 71-year-old woman, after which he cut off the victim’s wrists and ankles.
This was revealed in a statement by the spokesman of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Monday, July 11.
The police spokesperson said Bello was arrested on Saturday, June 9, following the sudden disappearance of the victim, who left home since June 8, 2022.
The relation of the victim then reported a case of missing person at the state’s Sabo/Ilupeju police station.
The case was later transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where technical and intelligence-based investigation was embarked upon.
In the course of investigation, police operatives traced the last place visited by the victim to be the house of Bello at Olodo area of Imala region of Ogun state.
The perpetrator was subsequently arrested and taken to custody for investigation.
Bello, on interrogation, confessed to have known Adisa for quite some time now, and that they were both into the business of children trafficking, according to reports.
He stated further that he invited the victim on that fateful day to discuss their usual business, but on getting to his house, he discovered that the victim came with what he thought was a huge amount of money.
This made him to hit Adisa on the head with a heavy wooden stick, which made her to be unconscious, after which he carried the unconscious body of the victim to the bush, where he finally snuffed life out of her.
Bello further confessed that when he searched the Adisa’s body, he discovered that the victim only had the sum of N22,200 with her, which he took with disappointment.
Having realised that his aim of getting much money from the victim was in vain, he decided to cut off her two wrists and ankles, which he claimed to have been sold to somebody who is now at large.
The police spokesperson noted that Bello already took the police operatives to the bush where he buried the victim in a shallow grave.
He added that the dismembered body had been recovered and deposited in the mortuary.
The Command’s Commissioner, CP Lanre Bankole, while confirming the incident, commended the team of police operatives for a thorough job, adding that the case be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
Bankole also directed that anybody who is directly or indirectly involved in the case should be brought to book as soon as possible.
