Operatives of the Niger state police command have arrested a notorious kidnap kingpin identified as Bashiru Abdullahi.
The state police public relations officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, while parading the kidnap kingpin on Friday, July 22, said Badhuru was arrested at Kontagora, Kontagora local government area on July 14, 2022, based on credible information in Minna, Daily Post reports.
Basiru said he was arrested when he was planning, and making effort to recruit armed men needed to perpetrate his usual kidnapping escapades, according to the police spokesperson.
Abiodun said, “Bashiru confessed that he planned to kidnap a former local government council chairman of Mariga, and the father of a former commissioner in the state who owed him about N1.3 million from a business transaction between them, while he was expecting to get N15 million ransom from the plan.
“Sometime in the month of March, 2022, Bashiru murdered his younger brother one Alh. Mamuda Abdullahi, and when he was interrogated, he confessed to the act, saying that he contributed money with his brother to the tune of N79 million for a business purpose.
“However, he suspected that his brother swindled him, and he hit him with a stick on the head which resulted to his death.
“Bashiru told the family members and relatives in Bangi Mariga local government area of the state, that his brother was attacked, and killed by bandits at Beri region of Niger state.
“Meanwhile, the case is under investigation with a view to unraveling other criminal acts of the kidnap kingpin, as well as unveiling and arresting other members of his gang,” the police spokesperson added.
