The Air Task Force (ATF) Operation Hadin Kai troops have killed another notorious commander of Boko Haram identified as Alhaji Modu also known as Bem Bem, and 27 terrorists in Borno State.
The notorious commander and his fighters were killed on Wednesday, August 3, by military airstrikes around the Mandara mountains in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno state, according to Daily Post.
Sources within the military high command confirmed that the operation followed credible intelligence reports indicating that the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters were converging in large numbers with the intention to conduct attacks.
Alhaji Modu was a popular drug baron who went into armed robbery before joining the Boko Haram sect.
The sources claim that Bem Bem oversaw the expulsion of Bama Town in 2014 and the murder of hundreds of people before proclamating it a Boko Haram state.
Prior to his murder, Bem Bem was collaborating with top Boko Haram terrorist Ali Ngoshe while they were both sheltering in caves in the Mandara Mountain, where they planned assaults in Nigeria, Cameroon, and the Niger Republic.
This occurred when Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), ordered operational commanders of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to “show no compassion” and use all available weaponry against terrorists posing a threat to national security.
