A Nigerian ransom negotiator identified as Ahmad Yahuza Getso has revealed that banditry and kidnapping are more lucrative than the oil business in Nigeria.
Banditry is expanding in scope day by day and have become a thriving industry benefiting armed gangs and other criminals, according to DW News.
Dr. Yahuza in a statement said “When a kidnapping is reported, he contacts the families and offers to help for free, he knows many gangs having researched various crimes networks.”
He further stated that there are sometimes the negotiations doesn’t work even with his expertise due to inability to complete the requested amount to be paid as ransom.
While negotiating for some victims, he said “the total of N49 million was collected at the time when we agreed to deliver the money. N49 million was delivered and the kidnappers killed one person again because we could not complete the money to N50 million.”
“They don’t care who you are, they don’t care the family you come from, they don’t care whether you are rich or poor,” he added.
Kidnapping is seen as a lucrative business and the shortest means to wealth by those involved in this crime. The current wave of abductions across the country makes every person a potential target regardless of social class or economic status.
