The Lagos state commissioner for physical planning and urban development, Dr. Idris Salako, has resigned after the recent building collapse in the state.
The reason for his resignation is not known at the time of filing this report, however, it may be connected with the recurring collapse of buildings in the state.
The state commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announced this in a statement on Monday, September 5.
The statement partly reads, “The resignation of Dr. Salako is a prelude to the restructuring of the ministry and its agencies.
“Governor Sanwo-Olu appreciates the commissioner for his services to Lagos state and wishes him success in his future endeavours.
“The Governor warns all players in the sector to respect the law or face the consequences of any indiscretion, no matter who the perpetrators are.”
It is worth noting that after the collapse of a 21-storey building on Gerard road, Ikoyi, in November, 2021, which killed the owner and 44 others, several other structures have collapsed in the state.
The latest is the seven-storey building under construction on Oba Idowu Oniru street, Lagos state, which collapsed on Sunday morning, September 4, killing four persons, leaving four others injured, according to The Punch.
