A Nigerian man based in the US, Charles Chukwuma Onwuemelie, was on Saturday, September 24, arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) at his residence for his involvement in over 68 robbery cases.
A statement from the LAPD said that, there have been over 68 armed robbery operations “attributed by investigators to the same suspect since 2021,” according to CKN Nigeria.
The statement added that, “The robbery cases have occurred throughout Los Angeles county and the city of Los Angeles.
“During investigation, detectives discovered that Chukwuma commonly used a blue cloth to cover the handgun used in the robbery operations that occurred at gas stations, 7-elevens and Walmarts.
“Chukwuma would conceal himself by wearing different hats, a face mask and rubber gloves.”
According to the police, “The same vehicle was involved in many of the robbery operations, and the same suspect was linked to the series of crimes based on several factors.
“When he struck again on Friday, September 23, 2022, detectives formulated a plan, initiated surveillance and ultimately served a search and arrest warrant.”
Chukwuma was arrested at his residence, and evidence linking him to the operations was also recovered at the scene, including a firearm.
The Los Angeles district attorney’s office, on Tuesday, September 27, filed 16 counts of robbery against Chukwuma for the crimes he committed in the city.
According to reports, Chukwuma got married to his lover in July 2022.
