An 18-year-old boy identified as Tope Momoh has strangled his mother to death for calling him a bastard in Ondo state.
Tope admitted to killing his 52-year-old mother, Stella, two weeks after she was buried.
He committed the offence on September 6, 2022 at Ikakumi Akoko area of the state, according to The Nation.
Tope, who was arraigned before an Akure chief magistrates’ court on one count charge of murder, on Friday, October 7, pleaded for mercy.
The prosecution counsel, Nelson Akintimehin, informed the court that the cause of the mother’s death was unknown until her son confessed to be the killer.
Akintimehin stated that, “Tope, in his confession, said that he was forced to confess his relatives that he strangled his mother to death when she woke him up in the midnight, raining curses on him and calling him a bastard repeatedly.”
Akintimehin said that the offence contravenes dection 319(1) of the criminal code, cap 37, vol. II law of Ondo state, 2006.
Tope, while speaking before the court, said that, “I did not have rest of mind since my mother was buried. So, I had to confess that I strangled her to death.
“Please, I want the court to show me mercy.”
Tope’s plea was not taken as the presiding magistrate, Musa Al-Yunnus, ordered that he should be remanded at the Olokuta correctional centre, Ondo state.
Al-Yunnus adjourned the case till October 20, 2022.
