The Niger state government has declared a five-day holiday for workers in the state over the Ramadan feeding programme.
The commissioner for information in the state, Binta Mamman, in a statement on Friday, March 15, disclosed that the five-day holiday is to permit civil servants participate in monitoring and distribution of food items for Ramadan, across all the LGAs of the state.
“Monday to Friday next week have been declared public holidays,” she said.
“This is to enable civil servants and political office holders to participate in the distribution and monitoring of the palliatives and Ramadan feeding in their various local government areas.”
She urged workers to ensure transparency in the distribution of the food items.
The head of service in the state, Mamman Salisu, said Governor Umar Bago has reduced working hours until the end of Ramadan.
Salisu said during Ramadan, from Monday to Thursday, workers are expected to resume from 9 am and close by 2 am, while on Friday, closing time is 1 pm.
The head of service also implored residents of the state to pray for the peace and progress of the nation.
Recall that the Government of Niger State had set aside N976 million for Ramadan feeding in the eight emirate councils of the state.
Assorted grains were also procured to be distributed to all 25 LGAs, emirate councils, religious leaders, security agencies, and political parties in the state.
