The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Governorship Screening Committee for Edo State election has cleared all ten aspirants who appeared before it on Monday, January 29.
Eight of the aspirants found their way Abujabto receive their clearance certificates from the PDP National Organizing Secretary, Umar Bature, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, January 30.
Bature confirmed that all ten, aspirants were cleared.
Meanwhile, one aspirant, Balogun Sunday, who paid N5 million and obtained the expression of interest form, didn’t show up for screening because he did not buy the nomination forms.
The ten aspirants cleared are:
1. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu
2. Anslem U. Ojezua Esq.
3. Hon. Felix E. Akhabue
4. Asuerinme Ighodalo
5. Hon. Omosede Igbenedion
6. Arthur Esene
7. Omoregie Ogbedie Ihama
8. Amb. Prof. Martin Uhomoibh
9. Osaro Osaze Onaiwu
10. Umoru Adizetu Hadizat
Deputy governor Philip Shaibu, who is also contesting, had in August 2023, debunked the claim that he is intending to leave the PDP to join the All Progressives Congress, APC.
This was disclosed in a statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Musa Ebomhiana, on Thursday, August 10, 2023, describing the claim as the handiwork of mischief makers who are bent on widening the rift between the deputy governor and his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Shaibu’s alleged ambition to succeed Obaseki as governor has caused tension between him and Obaseki, as the deputy governor headed to court to seek an order to stop an alleged plot by Obaseki to use the state House of Assembly to impeach him.
